Biological Beats is a London drum and bass label founded and run by MC Fatman D in 2004, known for jump-up releases and offering emerging producers a platform.
The label grew from Fatman's wish to build another musical outlet alongside his MC career. Speaking to UKF, he recalled starting with international producers and gradually developing a regular crew. His approach to choosing music includes thinking about how different MCs and DJs would use a track, rather than following a single production formula.
Its catalogue includes early or breakthrough releases from Dominator, Turno, Bou, and Macky Gee. Supporting new producers has remained central to the label's work, alongside continuing relationships with artists who first recorded for it.
The two-part Biological Beats Presents 20 compilation marked its 20th anniversary in 2024, bringing together 28 tracks from longstanding contributors and newer names. In an interview with 1 More Thing, Fatman explained that he wanted the label to remain open to different styles of drum and bass, even as jump-up forms a clear strand of its catalogue.
