No Escape EP

Duoscience & Mystific

Mystific & Duoscience take a darker route on No Escape EP, pairing Donnie Brasco dialogue, stark piano, and lean, low-slung drums across two tracks.

DNBB Records Released 4 September 2026

No Escape EP is a compact left turn from Mystific and Duoscience. DNBB Records presents the pair as stepping away from their more soulful, melodic territory, and the two cuts make that case without overplaying it. Rather than chasing maximal impact, the EP works with bass weight, tense samples, and arrangements that know when to get out of the way.

No Escape opens with a heavily distorted line from Donnie Brasco, delivered by Al Pacino as Benjamin “Lefty” Ruggiero. It is a smart starting point: immediately familiar in character, but mangled enough to function as part of the track rather than a novelty sample. From there, bass stabs, siren figures, and gunshot effects build a dark, physical frame. The low end remains the main event, while the percussion gives those individual details enough room to land.

Biography takes a different route into the same territory. A two-note piano figure starts the track, followed by a dramatic riser and dissonant strings that set a much more unsettled mood. Once the drop arrives, deep bass tones are opened out with carefully placed stereo movement. A hard snare and lean hat pattern create momentum without cluttering the space around the samples. That balance is the track’s strength: it can feel widescreen without losing the stripped-back discipline that makes the drums and low end count.

The label presents the record as a primarily vinyl project, with an official digital release still uncertain. That suits the material. It does not feel designed for a quick scroll through a release feed; it asks for attention to the placement of its elements and the gaps between them. The film material is not used as a shortcut to atmosphere. It becomes part of the rhythm and tension, particularly on the title cut.

For an EP framed around two producers moving into less familiar ground, No Escape EP is notably well judged. It holds on to the precision associated with Mystific and Duoscience, but applies it to a colder, more direct setting. The contrast between the bass-led menace of No Escape and the piano-and-strings unease of Biography gives the release a clear shape, and the limited physical format suits its sense of occasion.
