B-complex and Tanukichi made Surrounded for their back-to-back set at Let It Roll. Returning to Imagine Audio after Baddies, they move between hard-house rhythms and breakbeats, with the contrast becoming the track’s main attraction.

Pipes, a vocal, and birdsong open the track, giving little indication of how firmly the first drop will plant itself in 4x4 territory. Bass and drums push it towards a hard-house feel, making the arrival of the breakbeat in the first breakdown a distinct change of direction.

The piano accompanying that passage is particularly effective. Its beauty stands out against the harder dance rhythm that came before it, giving the broken drums a melodic setting of their own. The shift is substantial enough to make the return to 4x4 feel like a deliberate turn rather than a routine second drop.

When that second drop lands, syncopated bass stabs bring a different rhythmic accent to the dancefloor section. The straight kick and offbeat movement of the bass pull against one another, carrying the track forward after the piano and breakbeat interlude.
