Behind the music
About Basslayerz.
Basslayerz are a Nottingham drum and bass collective comprising DJ and producer Slipz and vocalists MC Spyda and Blu Bomma. Their live format puts two MCs alongside the DJ, bringing both voices into the crew’s performances. Spyda has credited the two younger members with keeping him motivated and helping him stay current.
Their label, BassLayerz Recordings, began in 2018. Spyda has explained that starting an imprint was a shared ambition, with All Ganja Man, his collaboration with Serum, providing a starting point. All three contribute to the label, with Slipz taking a particular role in its organisation.
The vocal partnership also runs through their recorded collaborations. On Shoot with Friction, released through Elevate Records, Spyda and Blu Bomma supply the vocals. The record places their work as MCs within a collaboration with another producer, extending a format familiar from their live appearances.
