Behind the music
About Break.
Break is Charlie Bierman, a Bristol drum and bass producer whose background includes playing drums and listening to jazz and funk. Those interests feed into his approach to rhythm, where the character of a break matters as much as its impact in a club.
He established Symmetry Recordings in 2006, giving his own productions an independent outlet. The label became the home for albums as well as individual releases, with Break overseeing how that music reached listeners.
His studio method includes rebuilding sounds rather than relying only on familiar samples. In an interview around Digital World, he discussed recreating drum material with his own recordings, keeping the feel of a rhythm while changing the sounds that make it.
Released in May 2023, the album brought his production together with vocalists including Charli Brix and Fox. Its 12 tracks made space for songs as well as instrumental club music, with the guest performances part of the album's construction.
Symmetry returned to the material in June 2025 with Digital World Remixes. The collection brought together other producers' versions and new remixes by Break himself, revisiting the original recordings across eight tracks.
