CLIPZ is the drum and bass name of Bristol producer Hugh Pescod, also known as Redlight. The alias became associated with 2000s jump up before his work as Redlight took him elsewhere in UK club music. Returning to CLIPZ meant returning to jungle, with the records of the mid-nineties back at the front of his mind.
He began playing CLIPZ sets again in 2017, including RUN and Hospitality in the Park. Down 4 followed in 2019, his first release under the name for roughly a decade. Speaking to UKF, he explained that he wanted the raw feeling of the jungle he had grown up with, rather than simply recreating the later sound people associated with CLIPZ.
That gave the name a new chapter without erasing the earlier one. Jungle breaks and the immediacy of those original records became the reference points, while his broader production experience remained behind the desk. Redlight continued separately, leaving each alias room to work on its own terms.
His official release links now include collaborations with SHY FX, Nia Archives, and DRIIA. For listeners coming from either period, the distinction matters: CLIPZ covers both the older jump-up catalogue and a renewed jungle direction, rather than one fixed sound that never changed.
