Coppa is Bradford-born MC and vocalist Marvin Hay, whose recordings stretch from heavier drum and bass to melodic songs and music outside the genre. His voice has appeared with a wide range of producers, while his own albums give the writing room to become the centre of the record.
His second album, Poetry in Motion, arrived on Audioporn Records in 2018. It developed through working with Shimon, who pushed him to consider different beats and moods rather than repeating the approach of his earlier work. The result brought together collaborators including Benny L, Current Value, Gydra, and NCT.
Some songs had been waiting years for the right instrumental. On Security, with Gydra, Hay found a setting for lyrics about mental health and supporting other people. Anything, with High Maintenance, gave him space to sing, a side of his voice that had been less prominent in his neurofunk collaborations.
He now also works under the name Coppa Komanche. His official profile describes that as an expansion towards hip-hop and other dance music, keeping the earlier MC identity connected with a wider recording career. For D&B listeners, the albums are a chance to hear more of the songwriter behind the voice familiar from clubs and festivals.
