Damageman began as a DJ before he became a producer, and that order still informs his music. He started mixing in 1999, just before turning 13, after jungle tapes circulating around his neighbourhood caught his attention. His early equipment was a pair of belt-drive turntables, and his first booking followed within months.
Production came around 2011. In a 2025 interview with 1 More Thing, he explained that the attraction was being able to make a tune and take it straight into a set. That practical focus remains central: he writes with DJs in mind, favouring tracks that work within a mix. His own description of the music he enjoys centres on sub-heavy jump-up and rollers.
Releases for Grid Recordings, including the Chameleon EP, sit alongside his own Sub Heavy Audio label. His debut album, Inside The Solar System, brought eight tracks together around the planets, an idea prompted by his son's enthusiasm for space. Beyond the studio, Damageman runs Banger After Banger with DJ JayDee, extending the same interest in making music work on a sound system into promoting their own events.
