DJ Suv Drum and Bass Artist Image

DJ Suv came to drum and bass through Bristol’s hip-hop and street-music culture. Before Full Cycle and Reprazent, he was part of Fresh Four, whose version of Wishing On A Star brought the group into the national charts. The records he collected for their breaks later supplied the raw material for a different kind of music.

As rave developed into jungle, Suv began making his own tracks with the soul and funk breaks he already knew. He became part of Full Cycle Records and Reprazent, while releases under the names Reel Time and Bigga Star added other strands to his catalogue. His own Playside Records gave him room to work with singers and other producers.

Collaborations have remained important to that work. If You Know, made with Jaxx for Natty Dub Recordings, was introduced as a reggae-influenced roller. In their interview, Suv explained how working with a younger producer had renewed his enthusiasm, with each bringing a different set of studio habits to the session.

His approach also draws on live instruments, vocalists, and the practical experience of working with samplers and outboard equipment. Meanwhile, V Recordings revisited Suenos Different through a Commix remix on Retrospect Volume 5. Those connections reach back through the Bristol catalogue while showing how his records continued to find new interpretations.
