Behind the music
About Ed Solo.
Ed Solo is a drum and bass DJ and producer whose music draws heavily on reggae. His recording partnership with Brockie includes Represents, released in 1998, and has continued across records and performances.
In 2009, he launched Jungle Cakes with Deekline. The project became a home for reggae-influenced drum and bass, including their versions of No No No and Top Rankin. Solo has been precise about that distinction: despite the label’s name, he has described much of their output as reggae-influenced D&B rather than traditional jungle.
His interests have also taken him into dubstep through Sludge. In a 2024 interview, he explained that sub-bass, strong mixdowns, and the range of musical influences within drum and bass were central to its appeal for him. That year he co-founded SUPA SUBS, adding another imprint alongside Jungle Cakes. His own Acid Dub appeared on the label in June 2024.
