Behind the music
About Enei.
Enei is Alexey Egorchenkov, a drum and bass producer from St Petersburg, Russia. His long association with Critical Music developed from a first release on the label in 2010 to an exclusive signing the following year, connecting his work with founder Kasra.
His debut album, Machines, followed in 2012. Rituals, released in 2015, developed that album approach further, balancing detailed drums and bass with a wider range of musical ideas.
Discussing Rituals, Egorchenkov described spending about ten months on the record and paying closer attention to his drum production. Working with Mefjus had encouraged him to keep improving that part of his sound. He also wanted the album to have variety, rather than present a collection of tracks that all followed the same formula.
The relationship with Critical continued into Countdown, released in November 2025 as his fourth studio album. It extended a catalogue in which collaborations and vocal contributions sit alongside instrumental club music. Those albums offer different ways into Enei's production, while the longstanding label partnership provides a thread through his development.
