Drum & Bass Artist Profile, Discography & Events

Fatman D is a drum and bass MC from south London and the founder of Biological Beats. His career connects live rave performance, vocal recordings, and label ownership, with an approach shaped by the MCs and DJs he watched as he came through the scene.

Stevie Hyper D became an early mentor and friend. In a UKF interview, Fatman recalled how opportunities to take the microphone at major raves helped establish his name during the 1990s. He learnt from watching Stevie's energy and crowd interaction, developing his own call-and-response approach. After Stevie's death, Fatman helped form the New Breed collective with fellow MCs Foxy and Riddler.

He founded Biological Beats in 2004, building another musical outlet alongside his MC career. The label gave early or breakthrough releases to producers including Turno, Bou, and Macky Gee. Fatman also runs Young Guns, and has described choosing tracks partly by imagining how different MCs would perform over them. In a 2024 interview with 1 More Thing, he emphasised supporting new artists while keeping the label open to different styles of drum and bass.

His album Tales from the South was released in 2021 through Biological Beats. The project gave his writing a fuller setting than a live set, drawing on his south London background and collaborations with producers including DJ Limited. Discussing the sessions with UKF, he explained that he preferred working directly with a producer or taking time to absorb a beat before deciding what his voice could bring to it.
