Generation Dub, also known as G-Dub, was the drum and bass partnership of Original Sin and Sub Zero. Before their separate solo catalogues became established, the pair made records together that helped define their place in 2000s jump-up. Their shared history began at college and developed through the studio.
Sub Zero’s authorised Playaz biography recalls the pair meeting at college and leaving their music-technology course to concentrate on making records together. They developed their production skills in a bedroom studio, with early releases through Formation Records preceding the relationship with Playaz Recordings.
That move connected them with DJ Hype and Pascal and helped establish G-Dub within the label’s jump-up catalogue. Playaz’s account of Sub Zero’s career recalls the pair’s early work as a significant period in his development, with their releases through Playaz and its Ganja imprint reaching the same circuit of DJs and ravers.
The partnership also forms an early part of Original Sin’s story. In a later UKF interview about Souped Up, he reflected on continuing to experiment within jump-up and finding a label that suited his music. The two solo careers took different paths, but the G-Dub records remain the work they made together, before those individual directions became the main focus.
