Halogenix

Halogenix is Laurence Reading, a London drum and bass producer and DJ whose solo work also explores slower electronic music. Previously part of Ivy Lab, he developed a separate catalogue through releases on Critical Music and Metalheadz.

He launched his own Gemini Gemini imprint in January 2023, creating a home for music beyond the expectations of a specialist drum and bass label. His debut solo album, Passions, followed in April 2024, bringing soul, downtempo, and halftime material into the same project.

The album includes collaborations with dBridge, Steve Spacek, and Liam Bailey. Reading described its development as a gradual process of finding the right collection of music, with many early ideas giving way to later recordings rather than a fixed concept dictating every track.

Making his own sounds has become part of that approach. He has spoken about learning piano and reducing his reliance on existing samples, giving himself more control over the feeling of a track. Even the album's visual identity had a personal connection: the artwork was painted by his son.
