Alix Perez is Alix Depauw, a Belgian producer who developed his career in the UK before moving to New Zealand. His catalogue spans soulful drum and bass and more abrasive bass music, with room for both within his own work.
His debut album, 1984, arrived on Shogun Audio in 2009. Looking back a decade later, Perez described the record as a significant early statement, while also explaining his desire to keep developing rather than repeat its sound.
He founded 1985 Music in 2016. Running the label gave him control over how music was released and presented, extending his involvement into its visual identity. He has described moving between production and graphic design as a way of refreshing his attention.
The collaboration Shades, with Eprom, provides another outlet for his work outside conventional drum and bass. It sits alongside his solo catalogue rather than replacing the more melodic music associated with his earlier records.
Entanglements, released in September 2024, included a collaboration with Visages across its eight tracks. In February 2026, 1985 announced the release of Sabotage, a dubstep mini-album. Perez linked that project to an interest in dubstep dating back to his time in London, adding another chapter to the label's range.
