Behind the music

About Hyroglifics.

Hyroglifics is the drum and bass alias of Matt Harris, whose music has always had interests beyond a single tempo. His Critical Music catalogue moves from liquid songwriting to halftime, with hip-hop and bass music helping shape the space between them.

Critical’s first Binary release introduced him in 2014. The label described Bay City Ballers Club and Killamanaman as halftime soundsystem tracks, establishing one side of his approach early on. Later, the Forlorn EP placed the liquid Waiting alongside harder club material, making the range inside the project just as clear.

His debut album, I’ll Wait, I Guess, arrived in 2023. The record includes work with Deft and Black Josh, taking in different rhythms and vocal approaches alongside drum and bass. Rather than forcing those interests into separate boxes, the album let them sit together.

In 2024, Harris announced that he would continue as Two Swords. Having moved from Bristol to Los Angeles at the end of 2022, he wanted a name that better represented both his own club music and his production for other artists. He described it to UKF as a continuation with a broader range of sounds. The Hyroglifics records remain the foundations of that wider project.
