King Yoof is a producer and DJ whose music begins with reggae soundsystems and travels through jungle, dub, and breakbeats. Growing up in Lewisham, he heard Saxon tapes and David Rodigan’s radio show through the Jamaican family next door, while his uncle introduced him to reggae concerts and a collection of dub records.
His early career included work with his brother and the breakbeat project Sonz of Mecha. The King Yoof name later gave him room to explore the broader soundsystem world, with Back 2 Hackney on Sub Slayers combining jungle ideas with a slower bass-music tempo.
His connection with Chopstick Dubplate grew from studio work with Jacky Murda. He joined the crew in 2016, sharing a studio with Murda and Aries, and introduced the partnership with a mix made entirely from dubplate specials.
Those exclusive vocals are central to his sets. Yoof works on the writing and arrangement with singers rather than simply asking for his name over an existing song. His later catalogue includes Killing a Soundboy / Get High and Sound Killa for Hire, continuing an approach in which a record is made for a particular moment and crowd.
