Behind the music

About Metrik.

Metrik is London producer, DJ, and vocalist Tom Mundell. His drum and bass combines electronic production with songwriting, and his own voice has become an increasingly central part of the music.

He signed to Hospital Records in 2012 and released his debut album, Universal Language, in September 2014. The record brought together vocal collaborations and instrumental tracks, establishing the album format as a place for more than one version of his sound. LIFE/THRILLS followed in 2016.

With Ex Machina in 2020, Mundell began putting his own vocals more prominently into his records. He has described that album's science-fiction framework as a way of connecting the songs, while working with synthesised sounds and ideas drawn from beyond drum and bass.

His fourth studio album, Awake, arrived in November 2025. In the accompanying interview, he described moving towards more personal songwriting and drawing on industrial and heavier guitar music. The album's visual world developed alongside its sound, giving the artwork and music a shared setting.

Awake includes collaborations with Grafix and ÆON:MODE, while Hole features Rou Reynolds and Filthy Pig. Reynolds' contribution began with a vocal idea sent as a voice note, which Mundell developed into the track.
