Mystic Trip is a London drum and bass producer, DJ, and photographer. His introduction to the music came through Kool FM around 1998 and 1999, when he recorded radio sets onto cassette and shared them with friends. By 15, he was beginning to explore how the music was made.
Early releases appeared through Quondam Records, alongside collaborations with Wagz on Future Thinkin. His later catalogue includes work for Soul Deep, Fokuz, Celsius, Flight Pattern, and Smooth N Groove. The ten-track Call It Fate on Soul Deep ranges from the old-school reference points of Retrospect to the deep rolling approach of It’s Been.
His 12-track We Are album followed through Smooth N Groove, arriving on the label’s Bandcamp at the end of 2023 before its wider release in January 2024. The label described its mixture of amens, liquid ambience, keys, and soulful vocals.
Speaking to DNB Universe, Mystic Trip described photography as his main occupation and explained how work assisting on film-score production had shaped his understanding of software. His advice to younger producers was to make music they wanted to hear, without measuring every decision against other artists’ productions.
