Behind the music

About Myth.

Myth is Jay Gatehouse, a Bristol drum and bass producer whose solo music sits alongside his work as one half of Ill Truth. Both projects give him space to work with bass-heavy rhythms, but a release credited to Myth belongs to his individual catalogue.

His No Limits EP on CIA Records brings together No Limits, Pathological, Murk, and No 1 Else. A later collaboration with Q Project, Demonz, connects that solo work with one of the label’s longstanding producers, bringing a punchy rolling rhythm to the partnership.

Myth has also taken other artists’ records apart and rebuilt them. His 2021 remix of Neurotoxin’s Component for Skalator Music is credited to Gatehouse as both producer and mastering engineer. The label describes his version as a two-step dancefloor track, distinct from Neurotoxin’s original.

Within Ill Truth, Gatehouse works with Haden, known as Revan, and has discussed taking responsibility for mixdowns as part of their shared studio process. That experience gives useful context to his solo records: there is an interest in how a track fits together as well as the impact of its bass and drums.
