Madcap is Elliot Payne, a British drum and bass DJ, producer, and co-owner of Creative Wax with DJ Pulse. He started DJing in the early 1990s and worked at Buzz Records in High Wycombe from 1995 to 1999, a shop closely connected to Pulse and the label.
That relationship became central to his own work. Madcap and Pulse relaunched Creative Wax in 2013, with Madcap’s remix of Tango’s Understanding among the records marking its return. His production and remix catalogue also reaches Good Looking Records, Metalheadz, Fokuz, and Soul Deep.
He has maintained an equally sustained connection to radio and mixing. The Creative Wax Show brings new drum and bass together with older records, while his Mi-Soul broadcasts with Donovan “Bad Boy” Smith document another strand of his selection. In 2026, his Creative Wax History Mix Vol.1 revisited the label’s catalogue through records by Pulse, Bounty Killaz, and Unit 1, the partnership of Alex Reece and Wax Doctor.
