Omni Trio is a solo recording identity of Robert Haigh, despite the name suggesting a group. A British composer and producer born in Yorkshire, Haigh moved to London in the late 1970s to study art. His work already encompassed ambient and industrial music under the name Sema before drum and bass became a substantial part of his catalogue.
His artist profile describes Omni Trio as an approach to highly musical ambient drum and bass, primarily associated with Moving Shadow. He began releasing for the label in 1993. That positioning is a direct description of the project’s musical remit, connecting the breakbeat recordings with the experimental and melodic interests that preceded them.
Rogue Satellite was the sixth and final Omni Trio album, originally released in September 2004 and later reissued digitally. Haigh wrote and produced the record, whose tracklist includes Night Train, High Noon, Earth Song, and Red Shift. It closes the album sequence under the Omni Trio name.
Under his own name, Haigh returned to piano-led ambient composition. Creatures of the Deep, released in 2017, credits him with writing and producing every track as well as creating its cover illustration. His separate Robert Haigh catalogue also includes Black Sarabande and Human Remains.
