Behind the music
About Particle.
Particle is a drum and bass producer whose relationship with Critical Music began with a release in its Binary series in 2019. His music draws on jungle, breakbeat, and techno, but the way he puts tracks together is often deliberately economical. A few well-chosen sounds can carry the idea without filling every available space.
His first album, Pyro, arrived in March 2024. Speaking to UKF, Particle described sketching the initial tracks quickly after Kasra encouraged the project, then developing them into a broader record. Rather than inventing a story for the album, he wanted it to explore the different styles he already enjoyed making.
Those differences included jungle on REM, the jump-up influence of No Mistakes VIP, and collaborations with Inja, Javeon, En:vy, and YAANO. His own explanation connected them through a minimal approach to production, with each track contributing a different part of his musical interests.
The subsequent Shunt / W4M release offered another clear contrast. Critical described Shunt as stripped-back minimal drum and bass, while W4M, made with Wingz, brought in soulful chords and vocals for a rolling track. The two recordings continued the variety heard on Pyro, pairing a spare, direct solo production with a collaboration built around a different mood.
