Phaction is Alexandre Pavlou, a Cyprus-born producer whose move to Bristol helped turn an interest in music into drum and bass production. He grew up playing drums, with his mother’s eclectic listening introducing him to jazz, reggae, and rock well before he began making electronic records.
He moved to Bristol in 2007 and began producing in 2013. Early releases through Fokuz Recordings led to a relationship with Total Science and CIA Records, where Signature Moves brought together five tracks. Collaborations with GLXY and Hugh Hardie became part of that developing catalogue.
Vocalists have mattered to his work, too. Riya, Charli Brix, and Leo Wood have all featured, with Aviatrix appearing on his Hard Truth EP for Metalheadz. The track was also used in an Adidas Spezial campaign, taking that collaboration beyond the usual release setting.
The later Ubiquitous EP brought a heavier rhythmic side into focus. Pavlou discussed its breakbeats and rollers with UKF in 2020, alongside the more shimmering Stratos. Those records help explain the range: his musical background is still present, even when a track is built around drums and bass rather than a voice.
