Behind the music
About SASASAS.
SASASAS is a British drum and bass collective built around the exchange between DJs and MCs. Its original formation brought together Phantasy and Macky Gee with Harry Shotta, Shabba D, Skibadee, and Stormin, combining artists from different generations of the music in one live act.
The group developed its public identity during the mid-2010s. In interviews from that period, the members described a project that began without a long-term plan, then grew as bookings followed. Phantasy spoke about the value of bringing his experience together with Macky Gee’s production, while the MCs brought their different backgrounds to a shared performance.
Their story was documented in Up Another LVL, released in 2018. The film followed part of the collective’s development.
The 2021 Unite project brought that community into a mixtape-album format. When they shared the complete version, the group thanked the contributing artists and described requests from listeners for a SoundCloud edition after its streaming release. Later recordings include Sound Killa (VIP), released in 2025.
