Behind the music

About ShockOne.

ShockOne is Karl Thomas, an electronic producer from Perth, Australia. Drum and bass is a substantial part of his catalogue, but his recordings also explore dubstep and electro-house. That breadth is particularly clear on his debut album, Universus. The later Organism Algorithm places greater emphasis on dancefloor drum and bass, adding another perspective to that broad recording history.

Released in April 2013 through Viper Recordings, Universus brought together tracks including Polygon, Crucify Me, Chaos Theory, and Lazerbeam. The album moves across tempos instead of presenting every track as drum and bass, giving listeners a fuller picture of the production behind his club releases.

Thomas's work also extends to Dark Machine Records and the A Dark Machine Warehouse events. The imprint creates a platform alongside his own releases, while the events place that music in a live setting. Together, those activities connect the individual producer with a wider bass-music community. For visitors discovering ShockOne through one D&B track, Universus remains a useful point of entry precisely because it shows the surrounding influences: the sharper electronic textures and changes of rhythm belong to the same catalogue.
