Freaks & Geeks are Shaun Brockhurst and Phil Desborough, better known from Doctor P and Roksonix. Their shared drum and bass project brings the songwriting and bass-music experience of both producers into high-energy tracks built around memorable vocals.
They first crossed paths at Circus Records in 2010, before launching Freaks & Geeks at the end of 2020. Both had grown up on drum and bass, listening to Ed Rush and Optical, Dillinja, and Shy FX. The new name gave those interests a home alongside the dubstep work listeners already knew.
Elemental, featuring Emily Makis, became an early calling card. Pressure and Freefalling followed the same emphasis on songs that work in a rave, while collaborations have brought in Flowdan, Ruth Royall, and Lee Mvtthews. Their releases span Elevate Records, Rampage Recordings, and Circus.
By their 2025 appearance on Australia’s triple j, the pair were taking that catalogue to clubs in Australia and New Zealand. Their guest mix placed their own Everybody, Ignite, and Out My Head alongside other contemporary drum and bass. It gives a clear picture of the project: vocals at the front, with enough weight and momentum behind them to carry a room.
