Behind the music
About Tanukichi.
Tanukichi is a Japanese DJ and producer whose distinctive sound bridges the intensity of hardtek with the fluid precision of drum and bass. His debut album That Feeling, released on his own imprint Night On Earth on 23 January 2026, marks a major milestone in his artistic evolution. The record follows his 2023 collaboration Higher with Mandidextrous on RAM Records, a track that introduced him to the wider drum and bass community and set the stage for his current creative trajectory.
Rooted in Japan’s underground rave movement, Tanukichi’s journey began after a formative experience at Teknival in 2006, which inspired his ongoing connection to the European free party scene. His music combines high-energy percussion, dominant basslines, and precision sound design, embodying both the power and unity of rave culture. Over the years, he has become a recognised figure within the European hardtek circuit, known for his innovative production approach and cross-scene collaborations.
That Feeling brings together a series of collaborations that capture his range and creative depth. Tracks with Bob Ranks, Floxytek, and Zombie Cats showcase his capacity to merge heavy four-kick frameworks with the rolling energy of drum and bass. The album’s fusion of 175 BPM rhythm and dancefloor weight reflects his commitment to pushing the genre forward, blending cultural identity with forward-thinking production.
With That Feeling, Tanukichi cements his position as one of the most progressive forces emerging from the modern rave landscape. His work continues to evolve, connecting scenes, styles, and audiences through a shared energy that transcends borders and expectations.
