The Green Man, also known as TGM, is Cologne producer and DJ Heiner Kruse. His work is closely tied to basswerk, the label and event project that developed from the Junglegrowers collective. Speaking to Faze in 2023, Kruse explained that the Basswerk name was adopted in 1997 to accommodate music that reached beyond the reggae and dub associations of their earlier identity.
That interest in variety runs through his own productions. Albums include You Decide and Sound Power, while 25 Years Basswerk Sessions brought together 21 tracks in 2023. Its collaborators include Peter Bouncer, Aquasky, Daddy Freddy, Digital, and Tangerine Dream’s Thorsten Quaeschning.
Those sessions move between different approaches rather than settling into a single drum and bass style. No Need for Consensus, made with Quaeschning, has a jungle mix, while Power to the Nurse takes a halftime direction. On the Dancefloor, with singer Laura, draws on disco and an African drum solo. Kruse’s wider work also includes books and tutorials on music production, connecting his recording practice with the explanation of the tools behind it.
