Behind the music
About Trex.
Trex is Joe Kehoe, a London drum and bass producer with a fondness for bass-heavy grooves and the older records that taught him how to build them. His music draws on jungle, hardcore, and garage without treating those influences as museum pieces.
His debut album, High Time, arrived in 2018. The follow-up, 15 Doors, came through Randall’s Mac 2 in 2020, with tracks that move between rougher club material and more personal moments. Space Race, made with Jaybee, reflects an admiration for Digital, while Truth Hurts brings breakbeat and garage influences into the mix.
Dreamy Dayz had a more domestic beginning: Kehoe’s wife, Ella Jones, recorded the vocal during an impromptu session. It sits alongside collaborations including Artistic Playa with MC Fats and Bailey, giving the album a cast drawn from different parts of his musical life.
Trex also runs Trust Audio with Quest, the friend who first introduced him to jungle and acid house. During lockdown he wrote and released Stay Calm in a single day. That quick turnaround reflects his preference for catching an idea while it still feels alive, rather than polishing away the reason he liked it.
