Counter Culture – NMTB [Metalheadz] | DnBUK Premiere

DnBUK premieres NMTB, Counter Culture’s new track for Metalheadz and one half of his forthcoming two-track release, NMTB / Make Me.

It is a fitting label debut. Counter Culture has built the track from the raw guitar figure of the Never Mind the Buzzcocks theme, recasting it as a heavy bassline roller that leaves plenty of space around the central hook. The result is stripped back without feeling slight: the riff carries the track forward while the drums keep it firmly rooted in the dance.

Metalheadz has described Counter Culture’s wider approach as drawing from punk, reggae, hip hop, jungle and soundsystem culture, and those reference points make sense here. NMTB does not chase a busy arrangement. It locks into its idea, lets the bassline do the talking, then keeps returning to that rough-edged guitar source with a different weight behind it.

The track has already been tested at Fabric, where it became a regular feature in Counter Culture’s sets. Now it arrives as his first release for Metalheadz, paired with the darker, more atmospheric Make Me on the flip.
