East Coast Funk

Hugh Hardie & Amoss

Hugh Hardie and Amoss combine rolling drums, deep sub and hip-hop influence on East Coast Funk, a laid-back roller arriving via Soulvent Records.

Soulvent Records Released 31 July 2026

The hip-hop influence is there from the opening bars, setting the tone before the drums ease their way into the mix. Nothing feels rushed. The groove takes shape naturally, with small details filling the gaps before the drop brings the track fully into focus.

Hugh Hardie and Amoss lean into contrast rather than outright impact. Warm synth stabs sit over a pulsing bassline, while a deep, rounded sub keeps everything anchored underneath. It rolls with confidence, never overcomplicating the arrangement, and leaves plenty of space for each element to breathe.

There is a loose funk running through the drums that gives the track its character. The break has enough movement to keep things lively without becoming busy, while the little production touches scattered throughout reward repeat listens. Those flashes of ear candy never distract from the groove, they simply add another layer as the tune develops.

In a set, East Coast Funk feels equally comfortable early on or during the middle of a rolling liquid session. It has enough weight to hold the floor, but its biggest strength is the way it settles into the mix without demanding attention. The balance between the hip-hop flavour, soulful touches and low-end pressure makes it an easy record to reach for.

Released on 31 July via Soulvent Records, this collaboration keeps things understated. Strong drums, warm musicality and a solid sub combine for a roller that values groove over spectacle.
