Subwave is a drum and bass producer from Moscow, known both for his solo recordings and for the partnership BOP x Subwave. The project began as a duo before becoming a solo outlet for Gleb. His music subsequently found a home on Metalheadz, with the self-titled Subwave album documenting that part of his recording career in 2012.
The album’s catalogue includes Rainbows, made with Enei, alongside Subwave’s own tracks. It provides a separate starting point from the later Bop collaboration: the solo artist and the joint project share a producer, but their names, credits, and musical settings remain distinct.
Subwave and Bop first met in 2009, with City Lights arriving as an early collaboration in 2018. Their 2022 album Renaissance drew on shared interests in eighties synth-pop, indie music, garage, and drum and bass. In a UKF interview, they described working between Moscow and St Petersburg, with periods of remote collaboration changing a process that had also involved meeting in person.
The result makes room for different tempos and textures rather than presenting a straightforward sequence of club tracks. Hush represents its liquid drum and bass strand, while the album’s own notes also describe lo-fi jungle. That breadth is part of the partnership’s appeal: familiar bass-music rhythms sit alongside influences that reach beyond drum and bass, giving the joint recordings a different frame from Subwave’s earlier solo releases.
