Zombie Cats launch their Tech Dreams alias with Voices, the first release on their new Won't Trend label. The name is a deliberate continuation of the duo’s 2023 Tech Dreams album, giving its deeper, techier direction room to develop while reconnecting with their earlier work as Rregula & Dementia.
Loose, upfront drums lead into Voices, with a female vocal stretched across the intro. The extended note dances around the rhythm while new elements are gradually brought into the mix. Nothing is hurried, leaving plenty of space between the drums, vocal, and the tension building underneath.
The drop turns that tension into movement. A pulsing saw bass rises and falls in both pitch and volume, constantly changing shape without overwhelming the groove. The drums keep their looseness beneath it, stopping the track from feeling rigid despite the darker, more technical sound design.
Later in the drop, another synth cuts through with the feel of something lifted from a Blade Runner soundtrack. It brings a colder edge before the track strips back for a breakdown that makes excellent use of silence.
The female vocal returns alongside a heavily filtered break, gradually reduced until little more than the snare remains. Isolated in the mix, it starts to sound like someone knocking on a door. That small detail carries the tension until the track breaks back in, with the empty space doing as much work as the bass.
