Bizzy B is Brian Johnson, a producer whose jungle takes breakbeats to their roughest edges. Through Brain Records, his own releases and his work with other artists, he helped give the early scene some of its most uncompromising rhythms.
Brain provided a home for producers including Peshay, DJ Zinc, Technical Itch, and Red Alert & Mike Slammer. Johnson was involved in the practical side too: recording, mastering, getting records pressed, and finding shops willing to take them. In later interviews, he described a label built through that hands-on work rather than a ready-made industry network.
With Pugwash, he also formed The Dream Team. Stamina on Suburban Base introduced a more club-facing partnership, followed by releases on their Joker Records imprint. That jump-up strand sits alongside the darker, more fractured music released under Bizzy B’s own name.
The Science EP series and Planet Mu’s Retrospective give listeners another route through the catalogue. Johnson has continued to discuss and demonstrate his production methods, from old sampling equipment to the organisation of his sound library. The details matter in this music: a breakbeat can be familiar, but what he does to it is rarely polite.
