Blocks & Escher are a critically acclaimed drum and bass production duo from London, celebrated for their deep, atmospheric sound and genre-defying approach. Emerging in the early 2010s, they quickly gained recognition through releases on labels such as Digital Soundboy and Narratives Music, the latter of which they co-founded. Their music bridges moody breakbeat science with cinematic soundscapes, often drawing from jungle, techno, and ambient influences to create a uniquely immersive listening experience.
In 2018, the pair released their debut album Something Blue on Metalheadz, a landmark work that received widespread acclaim for its intricate production and emotive depth. The LP highlighted their commitment to innovation and sonic storytelling, with tracks like Broken Harp and Hindsight standing out as modern classics within the genre. This release cemented their position as forward-thinking artists within the drum and bass community.
Their collaboration with Goldie, including engineering duties on his The Journey Man album and contributions to the Metalheadz label's creative direction, underscores their influence beyond just production. Blocks & Escher’s music has been championed for balancing dancefloor functionality with refined, introspective artistry—garnering praise from fans and peers alike.
With a catalogue that favours timeless quality over quantity, Blocks & Escher remain highly respected figures in the scene. Their work continues to inspire both established producers and a new generation of artists seeking to push drum and bass into more expressive and experimental territory.
