Chopstick Dubplate is an international jungle collective founded by Jacky Murda in 1998. Its music brings reggae, dub, and drum and bass together, with the crew operating much like a soundsystem: its own productions, vocal relationships, and exclusive recordings at the centre.
That approach makes the dubplate more than a name. When King Yoof joined the crew in 2016, the connection came through a studio link-up with Murda that immediately produced new music. His introductory mix was built entirely from dubplates, reflecting a collective whose sets draw heavily on records made within its own circle.
Vocalists are an essential part of that sound. Herbz, with Myki Tuff, is one example; their remix work includes Notorious by Nãnci and Phoebe, featuring Congo Natty. The reggae influence gives the music a place at soundsystem events and reggae festivals as well as jungle and drum and bass nights.
The crew has worked with different members and collaborators over time, so a single fixed line-up does not tell the whole story. In his LoveThatBass interview, King Yoof described Chopstick as releasing its own material while working with other producers on collaborations.
