Demolition Man is Wayne Young, also known as Ras Demo, a singer, songwriter, and MC from Hackney whose voice helped turn Fire into a jungle anthem. His career began in reggae soundsystem culture, and that background has remained central to the way he writes and performs.
Fire, credited to Prizna featuring Demolition Man, carried his vocal into the jungle scene in the mid-1990s. Its familiar hook brought him an audience beyond the reggae circuit, but the two sides of his music continued together. In a 2016 interview with the Jamaica Observer, he described recognition for his reggae work as especially meaningful because that was the music he had grown up with.
His own production house, Inna Mi Yard Productions, brings the studio side of that career into focus. He identifies himself as an engineer and producer as well as a vocalist, with releases such as Running Away (Inna Mi Yard Productions Mix) sitting alongside collaborations and remixes.
The later catalogue includes More Fyah, Slow Motion (Jungle Remix), and Fleck’s remix of Don’t Give Ah. For jungle listeners, Fire is the obvious starting point; the reggae records reveal the longer musical life behind that one unmistakable vocal.
