Coco Bryce is Yoël Bego, a Dutch producer and DJ whose jungle records leave plenty of room for melody, humour, and the restless possibilities of a breakbeat. Based in Breda, he has also released across other styles, with skateboarding and its visual culture woven into the music’s presentation.
His Myor label began in 2005 with a single release, then grew more steadily from 2009. After time spent making instrumental hip-hop and skweee, he returned to jungle and breakbeat hardcore, launching Myor Massiv with a split EP alongside FFF. Hearing jungle collide with footwork helped renew his interest in where the rhythms could go.
Night on Earth arrived through Fresh 86 in 2019. An invitation to make a double EP became an album instead, with older tracks revisited and new music written to fit a coherent whole. The title came from Jim Jarmusch’s film, while Rob & Robin created artwork tied to its late-night atmosphere.
He draws some of the familiar bootleg-style characters used on Myor’s releases himself, with other artists contributing original designs. That playful side sits naturally beside the records. For Coco Bryce, jungle offers countless ways to reshape rhythm and borrow ideas from different music; its history gives him possibilities to work with rather than a template to reproduce.
