Emperor is British drum and bass producer Conor Corrigan. His work for Critical Music combines intricate club production with melodic and vocal writing, while a separate alias, Monuman, gives him space to explore ideas beyond drum and bass.
His debut album, Dispositions, arrived in 2016. Its tracklist ranges from pieces such as Cold Snap and Foxholes to vocal collaborations, making it a broader introduction than a single DJ track. His collaborative catalogue also includes work with Mefjus, another producer closely associated with Critical.
Corrigan explained the relationship between his two names in a 2018 UKF interview. He had always made different styles under Emperor, but Monuman gave that other music its own direction and an outlet with fewer expectations attached. Some early tracks were written in a week and shared directly on SoundCloud. Piano-led writing, he said, often appeared when the music carried something particularly emotional. The two projects are therefore connected by the same musician rather than by a fixed tempo or production formula. For a listener moving beyond his club records, Monuman offers another side of the artist without changing the identity of Emperor's drum and bass catalogue.
