Evol Intent brought an American hardcore and punk background into drum and bass, building a trio around The Knick, Gigantor, and The Enemy. Their own label began in 2000, giving the project a home before releases through Renegade Hardware, Barcode, and other imprints carried the music further.
The Knick and Gigantor started the label together, with The Enemy joining after they connected online. Their early catalogue includes Seven Angels Seven Plagues, while collaborations with Ewun became another part of the group’s sound. Working independently did not mean working alone: exchanging ideas with other producers was central to its development.
Their 2008 album Era of Diversion opened the project beyond straightforward drum and bass. The group’s own biography describes that broader approach alongside its club records, making the album a substantial statement of what the three producers could do together.
The archive has continued to grow. Their artist-run Bandcamp includes Nostromo, Offworld Trenches with UFO! and Nerd Rage, and remastered early material. Edge of the Earth, originally from 2005, was remastered with analogue hardware in 2022. Those reissues keep the original records available without making their release dates appear newer than the music itself.
