Gardna is a Bristol MC and songwriter whose music draws on the whole soundsystem spectrum. Reggae, jungle, garage, and drum and bass all have a place in his records, with collaboration connecting those interests rather than leaving them in separate projects.
His debut album, Good Time Not A Long Time, arrived in 2019, produced by Brad Baloo of The Nextmen. Guests included Eva Lazarus, Hollie Cook, Kiko Bun, and Omar, bringing different voices into a record Gardna imagined with festival performances in mind.
Time & Space developed from three intensive days at Devon Analogue Studio with Brad Baloo and Bristol producer Creed. Gardna concentrated on writing, finding ideas in the music, books, and rave artwork around the studio. The collaborations came afterwards, including R.A.V.E.A.S.A.P and On That with DRS, plus work with Dynamite MC, Fox, and Doktor.
He has also recorded Spaceman with Kasra, bringing his vocal style into Critical Music’s catalogue. For Gardna, working with other MCs is about the record they can make together; trading lines with DRS pushed him into a different way of writing. The live energy starts in those songs and exchanges, with the microphone giving each collaboration its own point of view.
