GEST is the drum and bass project now led by Berlin-based Dave Stone. It began as a new identity for Gerra & Stone, the partnership of Stone and Harry Hackett, with a more focused interest in techno, percussion, and stripped-back arrangements.
The name change followed a meeting with Shogun Audio, where the duo had previously released through SGN:LTD. They wanted a name for the music as a whole, rather than two individual DJ aliases. Early GEST tracks included The Foundation, Been Thru, and Sequential, made with Quadrant and Iris.
Huaxi shows how the different influences came together. In their UKF interview, they described starting from hardware percussion loops and developing the track towards a Bristol roller feel, with modular techno ideas in the rhythm. The visual identity drew on brutalist architecture, with Army of Few translating their references into artwork.
Stone now presents GEST as a solo project. His Berlin events have also developed beyond the artist name: deep method brings drum and bass, jungle, dubstep, and techno into a shared club-night concept. In a 2026 interview, he explained that he wanted to retain the atmosphere of GEST Invites while building something around the wider community.
