Goldie is Clifford Joseph Price, the producer and visual artist whose route into music began with graffiti in the West Midlands. Time spent in New York and Miami immersed him in hip-hop culture before his return to Britain and his discovery of London's rave scene.
At Reinforced Records, he moved from artwork into studio sessions, learning what sampling and resampling could do. Experimenting with those tools helped him develop the breakbeat music that led to his debut album, Timeless, in 1995.
He co-founded Metalheadz with DJs Kemistry and Storm. The label's Sunday Sessions at London's Blue Note became a meeting point for producers and DJs, where new recordings could be tested on a club system before release.
Goldie has described his studio role in terms of directing: bringing engineers, performers, and arrangers together to realise ideas he hears in his head. That collaborative method also shaped the wider musical scope of The Journey Man, released in 2017.
His Rufige Kru project continued with Alpha Omega in May 2025. The album extended a separate strand of his catalogue alongside the records released under his own name.
