Homemade Weapons is Andre Delgado, a Seattle producer whose music finds tension in the gaps between the drums. His sparse, heavy rhythms give small changes room to register, with halftime patterns and low-end pressure doing much of the work.
He began DJing in Baltimore in the 1990s and later moved to Seattle, developing the Homemade Weapons project after years of listening and experimenting. Releases with Samurai Music brought that approach to a wider audience, including Clarion Call, Sleep Terror, and the 2016 debut album Negative Space.
The album includes collaborations with Gremlinz on Jawbox and Red Army on Retina. Delgado has spoken about leaving room within a track, drawing ideas from film scores and everyday sounds as well as other records. The result can feel physical and unsettling without relying on a constant wall of bass.
He founded Weaponry in 2016 to give music a home when it did not fit the labels he was sending it to. That practical decision also gave him greater freedom to follow the project’s sound. Across the label and his own releases, the emphasis remains on rhythm, texture, and the pressure created when a beat briefly falls away.
