The Untouchables are Kay and Nitrox, the Brussels duo whose drum and bass draws on dub, stripped-back arrangements, and percussion. They began DJing together after Nitrox returned from studying in London and met Kay, who was running drum and bass nights in Brussels.
Speaking in a 2016 interview, the pair described how mixing together and playing back-to-back led into production. Their work with Translation Recordings included the Separate Reality EP and a collaboration with Resound, a connection formed after meeting him at a London event.
Samurai Music became another sustained home for their work. Mutations appeared in 2018, followed by Grassroots in 2021. Originally conceived as an EP, Grassroots grew into a full album, including contributions from Loxy, Mantra, Djinn, and Sam KDC. Its dub-infused drum and bass retained their focus on rhythm and groove.
Their third album, Lost Knowledge, arrived in 2025. The record carried their half-time approach into another full-length project, with dub techniques and the relationship between percussion and bass remaining central to its construction.
