Mefjus

Mefjus is an Austrian drum and bass producer associated with Linz. His catalogue brings intricate rhythm and sound design into a range of arrangements, with the technical weight of his early work developing into broader album writing. His early neurofunk releases established one strand of that sound, although the later albums give him room to develop beyond a single description.

His debut album, Emulation, appeared on Critical Music in 2014. Manifest followed through VISION in 2018, with Noisia involved in the label's feedback and development process. His collaborations also include work with Emperor, while vocalist Maksim has been another recurring part of his musical world.

Looking back on Emulation with UKF a decade later, Mefjus described the album as a transition from full-time programming work to a full-time creative career. He could still hear that mixture of identities in the record. The later Manifest interview focused on a different challenge: shaping ideas into songs, deciding what belonged in an arrangement, and learning from outside feedback. Those accounts give his production a context beyond technical detail alone. The albums document someone developing his musical judgement as well as his tools, with collaboration helping turn elaborate studio ideas into finished pieces.
