Behind the music
About Pola & Bryson.
Pola & Bryson are British drum and bass producers whose music combines melodic writing with an interest in atmosphere and the changing mood of an album. Their early work has a clear liquid foundation, although that description does not account for every direction their later catalogue takes.
Released through Shogun Audio, Beneath the Surface in 2021 and Overgrown in 2025 offer two different approaches to building a record. The earlier album grew during lockdown, when the duo's usual sources of inspiration through travel and playing music were interrupted. Working with artwork designers Army of Few, they created imagery and a storyboard that helped guide the writing and its interludes.
Discussing Overgrown with UKF, they described a reversal of that process. Returning to clubs, travel, and everyday encounters gave them new material, with the theme emerging from the music instead of a story being set first. Collaborations with artists including Break, MPH, and IYAMAH broaden that setting. Their own interviews make the distinction especially useful for listeners: the albums are connected by the same producers, but their inspiration and construction differ. The liquid roots remain an important part of their story, while the albums show them finding fresh ways to organise and share their ideas.
