Ray Keith is a British jungle and drum and bass producer, DJ, and the founder of Dread Recordings. His early musical background encompassed rare groove, soul, and funk before the acid house and hardcore periods. Those roots sit alongside a production catalogue issued under several names, including Renegade, Dark Soldier, and London’s Most Wanted.
His Terrorist appeared under the Renegade name on Moving Shadow in 1994. UKF’s retrospective interview places that recording after his remix of Orbital’s Chime in 1990. The sequence traces his movement from the rave era into jungle through specific records, rather than relying solely on his long-standing DJ reputation.
Dread became an outlet for both his own music and a broader label catalogue. Its shop preserves the different recording identities, with Terrorist, Dark Soldier, and Chopper appearing in remastered editions alongside releases credited directly to Ray Keith. The aliases remain attached to individual productions rather than interchangeable names for every recording.
His work has also moved into a live-band setting through Renegade Live. Dread’s Live at the Jazz Cafe 2024 captures a London performance in a two-CD edition, while the label carries Too Late under the Renegade Live and Ray Keith credits. His book Dark Soldier provides another account of the experiences behind the music.
