Nookie is the production name of Gavin Cheung, whose records connect the early hardcore scene with jungle and more soulful drum and bass. His Cloud 9 alias is another part of that history, giving him a separate outlet for a darker and more experimental side of his writing.
The story of Gonna Be Alright shows how those strands developed together. In interviews with UKF and DJ Mag, Cheung described revisiting the record through its Cloud 9 version, building around chopped breaks and the piano sound that helped make it recognisable. The original and the later remix belong to different release moments, as hardcore was moving towards jungle.
His earlier work with Reinforced Records and Moving Shadow also reflected differences between the aliases. He recalled using Nookie for more musical, uplifting material, while Cloud 9 allowed another approach. That distinction makes the catalogue more interesting than a single genre tag could suggest.
After a period in which other work took priority, lockdown gave him time to return to the studio. The result included Kaeya for Metalheadz, followed by records such as Love Less Chaos and Got Soul. These later productions continued to connect soulful detail with active breakbeat writing, showing how the earlier ideas could develop rather than simply be recreated.
